Mum and two daughters killed after fire tears through four-storey apartment

A mum and her two daughters have died after a horrific apartment fire.

Officers confirmed a 40 year old woman, and two girls aged 10 and eight, were rushed to hospital for smoke inhalation.

However, they were pronounced dead when they arrived at Woodhull University Hospital in New York.

The fire broke out in the family’s third-floor apartment at around 5.05am today, in the four storey building on Gates Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities speculated it may have started in the kitchen.

Three others are also reportedly being treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses shared their shock at the blaze, with one downstairs neighbour telling Gothamist: “I was asleep, all I remember was being told there was a fire, so I ran outside. It was just smoke.”

The fire was said to be under control by around 5.45am.
