Move over David, Messi makes football fun for Victoria

Victoria Beckham may have been with husband David for more than 25 years but it took Argentine football legend Lionel Messi to help her finally love the beautiful game.

The Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer, 49, admitted: “I never enjoyed watching football. I never felt necessarily wanted at matches.

“I’m not saying this as in ‘Poor me’ but it was never the fun that it is now.

“But since Messi turned up, the energy has gone to a whole other level. It’s a whole other experience. It’s fun.”

Former England captain David, 48, owns a 10 per cent stake in US side Inter Miami and was instrumental in persuading ex-Barcelona star Lionel, 36, to sign for the club last year.

Victoria says she has made friends with the wives and partners of other Miami stars since hubby David bought into the team and even took fellow fashion designer Tom Ford to a match.

She said: “He loved it. I don’t think either of us knew what was going on but we both smelled nice.”

Meanwhile, as she prepares to turn 50 in April, Victoria also reflected on the 1990s fashion outfits she and David wore.

The mum of four said yesterday: “I look at [son] Romeo and Mia [his model girlfriend since 2019].

“They rock up in their 90s stuff. David said the other day, ‘I wish I’d kept all those Maharishi combat trousers’. It’s not that you get too old to wear things, it’s that you’ve already done it.

“Style should evolve. I’d rather get something wrong than be boring.”
