Mother and 9-year-old daughter axed to death in suspected family jealousy spat

A mother and her young daughter have been found axed to death at their home in New Jersey.

Keisha, 45, and Kelsey Morrison, nine, were wrapped in sheets and put under a bed, police say.

When young Kelsey did not turn up at school that morning, Keisha’s husband and the girl’s father, Gary Morrison, dashed to the home to check up on them both.

That was when he found his loved ones had been brutally murdered. Police said that the axe was stuffed between two mattresses inside the home.

Speaking to CBS, she added: “We demand justice for my niece. She didn’t deserve this. We demand justice for my sister-in-law.”

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office said it would not release information on the case.

City of Linden Mayor Derek Armstead released a statement on Facebook that said: “We are sending prayers & condolences to the family of Keisha Morrison and her 9-year-old daughter, Mayor of Roselle, Donald Shaw and the entire Roselle community.”

Friends of the family have since set up a Meal Train in support of Keisha and Kelsey Morrison’s surviving family who have now been displaced from their home.

The page read: “On April 19, 2023, an unspeakable tragedy affected the Morrison Family and they had to say goodbye to Keisha and Kelsey.

“Gary, Amber, Kyla and Kadera have since been displaced. If you find it in your heart to provide a meal to sustain this family during this difficult time, please do so.”

Roselle Mayor Donald Shaw shared a post on Facebook in which he condemned the violence and expressed his condolences to Keisha and Kelsey’s family.

Shaw wrote: “On behalf of myself and the full borough council, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family impacted by the tragedy that took place yesterday,” the post reads, in part.

“The family and this community have lost two precious souls. You can rest assured; we will get through this together. And to the family, the Borough of Roselle stands with you and will be here for the long haul.”
