Israel yesterday called on Moscow to protect “all its citizens and all Jews” after hundreds stormed the airport at Makhachkala in Dagestan.
Anti-Semitic slogans were shouted and 20 were hurt in the chaos triggered by the arrival of a Red Wings flight from Tel Aviv on Sunday.
Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky held Russia responsible, accusing tyrant Vladimir Putin of similar slurs.
He said: “This is not an isolated incident but rather part of Russia’s widespread culture of hatred toward other nations.”
A captain of one plane told passengers: “There is a furious mob outside. It is quite possible that we will be crushed.
“So please remain seated, and follow all the instructions of the crew.”
Those from Tel Aviv and Dubai had their passports checked by the mob to see if they were Israeli or of Jewish origin, it was claimed.
Later, screaming children ran the gauntlet of the mob, which demanded the expulsion of Dagestan’s ancient Jewish community.
Putin’s spokesman ignored requests to comment and the pro-Kremlin head of Dagestan region Sergei Melikov was left to heap blame on Ukraine.
In Cherkessk, capital of the Karachay-Cherkess republic, a rally was held demanding that Israelis be banished.
In Derbent, in Dagestan, there were protests amid false rumours Israeli refugees had checked into local hotels.
