Firefighters have been called to the scene of a large blaze that erupted at an industrial site in Essex. The Essex Firebrigade has reported their control room being flooded with calls as a result of the intense smoke coming from the area on Progress Road, Eastwood.
Six fire crews were sent to the area to deal with the problem, and they later asked for help from four more crews.
In order to aid in the firefighting efforts, two aerial ladder platforms, a water bowser, and an incident command unit were also called, according to an Essex Fire Brigade statement.
A substantial warehouse measuring roughly 20 metres by 10 metres has been completely destroyed by fire. The flames are currently being carefully contained and put out by fire crews.
Essex Country Fire and Rescue Service said: “There is a lot of smoke coming from the scene, if you live or work nearby, please keep your windows and doors closed.”
In a tweet, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were at the scene. They said: “We’re currently at the scene of an industrial unit fire in Progress Road, Eastwood.
“Our Control Room has had lots of calls to this incident but rest assured, we have crews on scene working to extinguish this fire.”
A spokesperson for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters are currently at the scene of a large fire at an industrial unit in Progress Road, Eastwood.
“We were called at 7:15am to reports of a fire in Progress Road and our Control Room received lots of calls to this due to the amount of smoke coming from the scene.
Six crews were sent to the scene and requested the assistance of a further four crews as well as two Aerial Ladder Platforms, a Water Bowser and an Incident Command Unit.
“A large warehouse – measuring approximately 20 metres by 10 metres – is on fire and crews are working to contain the fire. There is a lot of smoke coming from the scene, if you live or work nearby, please keep your windows and doors closed.”
