The moment a man threw a paving slab at a woman in a hijab in a suspected racist attack was captured by CCTV.
Footage shows the woman standing on a street in West Yorkshire when a hooded man runs up to her.
The man appears to be holding up a large concrete paving slab, which he launches at the woman.
She dodges the slab just in time before rushing over to some bystanders, clutching the side of her head.
Another witness rushes out of a nearby shop to see what was happening and the attacker, in all black, walks away with his hands in his pockets.
It is currently unknown what happened before the CCTV footage started and if the woman was injured.
West Yorkshire Police have confirmed a 57-year-old man has been arrested in Dewsbury in connection with the “extremely serious” incident.
The CCTV clip was posted on social media and has been shared almost 10,000 times.
It was captioned: “This is absolutely horrific – a hijab-wearing Muslim woman has had a paving slab thrown at her head by a white man in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.”
A spokesman for the force said: “We are aware of this video and can assure residents such incidents are treated extremely seriously.
“A man has been arrested in connection with the offence and enquiries are ongoing by Kirklees Police.”
