Moment man disarms knife-wielding thug in broad daylight on 'Britain's roughest street'

Photos show two men on the ground in the middle of a busy road in Birmingham as they grappled for control over a knife. The shocking incident took place on Slade Road, Erdington, a street previously dubbed “Britain’s roughest street”.

While the busy street carried on with business as usual, the two men wrestled for control of a knife in the evening of Tuesday, July 18. Cars could be seen passing the pair, with witnesses keeping their distance.

Onlookers videoed the altercation, with one saying: “He’s stabbing him up, he just took that knife about ten times you know.”

Another witness could be heard shouting for the police to be called before the fight ended suddenly, with one man getting up and walking away.

One man suffered “serious injuries” West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “We were called to reports of a stabbing at the junction of Kings Road and Slade Road at 7.50pm on Tuesday. One ambulance, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor attended the scene.

“On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was treated for serious injuries before being taken to hospital.”

West Midlands Police also issued a statement saying they were “investigating after a man was stabbed near Slade Road, Erdington”.

The incident took place at around 7.40pm on Tuesday, July 18. The police added: “A man was taken to hospital with injuries which were not life-threatening. We’re carrying out enquiries in the area.”

They said they were “aware of a video” which had been “shared on social media at the weekend”. They asked “anyone with information” to contact them.

The statement ended: “Contact us via Live Chat on our website, or by calling 101, and quote crime reference number 20/624953/23.”

Social media users were quick to slam the passers by for not stopping to help as the video of the incident gained traction online.

One person said: “Am I the only person who would have got out their car and helped? What is going on with humanity??”

Another added: “Imagine standing there and potentially filming someone get murdered.”

Slade Road is known for violence, theft and drug addicts, with residents previously saying they were concerned for their children’s safety.

Andy, 56, a resident of Slade Road for 22 years, told the Daily Star in February the road has a “bad reputation”.

“My youngest lad, his mates aren’t allowed to come here because their parents have heard of Slade Road. He has to go to theirs.”
