Moment London bus explodes into huge fireball as onlookers stopped in their tracks


Shocking pictures have captured the moment a London bus exploded into a giant fireball. The double decker was engulfed by giant orange flames earlier this morning in Wimbledon, south London.

In videos posted on social media, firefighters and police are at the scene battling the flames. A cordon is also in place and the road is closed in both directions as the blaze is dealt with.

Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters tackled the fire. There are currently no reports of any injuries.

A spokesperson for Met police said: “Police were called at 7.23am on Thursday, January 11 to reports of a bus on fire at Wimbledon Hill/Alwyne Road, SW19.

“Officers, London Fire Brigade [LFB] attended. At the scene a bus had caught fire.

“Road closures and cordons are in place. We expect them to remain for some time.

“We thank the local community for their patience and cooperation as emergency services work at the scene. If possible please avoid the area.”
