Moment angry driver is confronted by cyclist for playing game at the wheel

A cyclist who confronts a van driver playing a game on his mobile phone while at the wheel suffered a furious response caught on camera.

Two wheel road warrier ‘Cycling Mikey’ shares his adventures riding around the streets of London on his YouTube channel and other social media platforms.

Now he has posted a clip confronting the driver of a silver van as he plays a game on his mobile phone while driving.

And the driver’s expletive-filled response showed his total fury at the cyclist’s warning.

Cycling Mikey – Mike van Erp – said on the caption to his video: “This driver was playing a game, I think called Mr Autofire.

“It’s clear to me that he knew he was doing wrong going by how quickly he put his phone away.”

The video plays Jaws music as Mikey approaches the van driver on West Carriage Drive, Westminster, London.

He writes on the video: “I think the angry beeping is another driver trying to warn this guy that he’s about to be caught.”

The conversation that then takes place is not the most polite of exchanges, the driver in a silver van winding his his window and tells the cyclist to “fu** off”.

“Are you going to make me, are you?” asks Mikey.

The van driver continues: “Get that on camera. Fu** off.”  Mikey asks: “How old are you? Four?”

“If I was four I wouldn’t be able to drive would I?” responds the van driver before driving off.

One YouTube user said: “The guy seemed like a most polite, friendly and courteous person, that clearly tried (but did not succeed) to show you his appreciation for your very useful work, let’s hope this encounter has changed his mis-behaviour while at the wheel in traffic.”

Another said: “I hope none of his family or friends get hurt by someone doing this with his attitude.” “What a wonderful range of vocabulary. His parents must be so proud,” said another.

Mikey – who has become known as one of ‘Britain’s most hated cyclists’ as he catches drivers flouting the law behind the wheel – says he went on to report the incident to police.

He added: “Hopefully his boss, if he has one, saw the warning and gave the driver a telling off.

“If he’s a sole trader, then I hope he took the lesson to heart.”

Mikey, who has more than 100,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel, says he has reported 1,555 drivers since 2019 – and this has resulted in 2,161 penalty points and £129,238 in fines.
