Mohamed Salah injured at AFCON as Liverpool handed scare with Egypt star forced off

Liverpool have been handed a major scare at the Africa Cup of Nations after Mohamed Salah was forced off through injury during Egypt’s clash with Ghana. The winger grimaced in pain as he hit the deck, appearing to be in obvious pain as he trudged of the pitch.

Salah headed to AFCON with hopes of going one better than his nation’s runner-up finish at the competition last time. However, the forward may not be able to impact the tournament for too much longer.

During Egypt’s Group B clash with Ghana, the ex-Roma star dropped to the ground off of the ball after appearing to sustain a muscle injury. Salah then leant over whilst looking at his legs as he appeared to come to terms with the problem, which is suspected to be hamstring-related.

The winger continued to stretch his leg whilst in very obvious pain, with medical staff rushing onto the pitch to come to the aid of the captain. Salah attempted to fight back the tears as he realised the severity of the issue, with a substitute promptly called for.

The 31-year-old gradually rose to his feet in a moment that will have offered some relief to Liverpool supporters, though their moment of joy was short-lived as Salah very slowly off of the pitch whilst pulling his hair in frustration.

The ex-Chelsea forward was promptly replaced by Mostafa Fathi, with Egypt manager Rui Vitoria forced to roll the dice given that his team largely revolves around the presence of Salah out on the right wing.
