MoD 'aware of investigation' after soldiers reportedly arrested in drug sting

The Ministry of Defence says it is “aware” of an ongoing investigation after two SAS soldiers were reportedly arrested over alleged involvement in a drugs ring.

Two men – both believed to be SAS soldiers – and a woman were arrested during a raid on a farm by police officers last month, reports the Mail. The paper says “quantities of a suspicious substance were found and removed for analysis” and the trio arrested on suspicion of class A drug offences.

They were said to have been questioned and bailed. The raid is said to have taken place in Herefordshire.

A MoD spokesperson told Sky News: “We are aware of an ongoing investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

The SAS is regarded by many as the world’s best elite unit. It is based in the village of Credenhill, near Hereford.

The unit’s reputation is however currently facing damaging allegations that troops carried out unlawful killings in Afghanistan. A public inquiry is currently taking place – although part is being held in secret.

Claims in a BBC and Times investigation said innocent civilians were reportedly killed during night raids aimed at capturing Taliban fighters.
