Mike Dean brands Man Utd star 'silly' as tempers flare in Manchester derby

Former Premier League referee Mike Dean has called out Sofyan Amrabat for “overreacting for no reason” after a tough challenge from Phil Foden in the Manchester derby. Old Trafford played host to the latest derby in Manchester with strong tackles flying in from both sides.

United were on the backfoot after Erling Haaland’s penalty gave City the lead midway through the first half. It turned into a scruffy finish to the first half with both teams struggling to build up much rhythm with tackles flying in.

Both Amrabat and Foden overstepped the mark towards the end of the half after the latter fouled his rival. Amrabat was furious and confronted Foden with both players butting heads before being dragged away.

Referee Paul Tierney booked both players for being unable to control themselves and Dean agreed with the decision.

“Amrabat just overreacted for no reason,” Dean said on Sky Sports. “It was two silly cautions really and they have to be careful for the rest of the game.”
