Mexico detectives find at least 34 hacked up corpses 'in plastic bags at two homes'

Searchers found at least 34 dismembered corpses “in black plastic bags and stored inside coolers and refrigerators” in Mexico on Sunday.

The bodies were found across two houses on Sunday in Poza Rica, north of Veracruz, during various operations by the Ministry of National Defense.

According to reports, neighbors called the cops as there was a bad smell coming from the house for several days but said that they did not know what the place was used for.

Along with the dismembered bodies, officials found firearms and drugs. The exact number of victims has not been confirmed.

It has been reported that a number of other houses were searched in connection to the grim discovery, but authorities are yet to make an official statement.

Since the beginning of the year, the municipality of Poza Rica has become a red hotspot due to the high levels of violence in the area, where there have also been attacks in bars, resulting in several deaths.

The state government launched a special operation to counteract the high levels of violence, according to governor Cuitláhuac García Jiménez.

In May alone, he stated that 17 of the generators of violence operating in the area had already been arrested.

The area surrounding the houses where the dismembered bodies were found has been cordoned off and the houses continue to be under surveillance.

The bodies were removed by at least three vehicles from a funeral parlour and transported to the Forensic Medical Service for identification.

Back in July, 27 corpses were found in clandestine graves in the Mexican border city of Reynosa, across from McAllen, Texas. Many of which were hacked to pieces.

Some of the corpses were buried so recently that bits of skin with tattoos remained, and that allowed relatives to identify four of the bodies.

González said some of the 16 burial pits contained two or three bodies, and that the clandestine burial site may have been used by gangs as recently as a month or two ago. Some were covered by only one and a half feet of earth.
