GB News have praised the Met Police’s decision not to investigate Jeremy Clarkson after his column in The Sun made vitriolic comments about Meghan Markle. The presenter wrote that he hated the Duchess “on a cellular level” and was dreaming of the day when she was made to “parade naked as the public pelted with excrement”.
However Met Police commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said it was not a situation for the police to get involved in, despite claims Mr Clarkson’s comments constituted a hate crime and were racist and misogynistic.
Sir Mark told LBC News: “I think there’s a line to be drawn, it’s not for the police to get involved in anything that’s about ‘is something ethical, is it moral, is it proper, is it offensive?’
“The legal lines are only crossed when things are said that are intended to or likely to stir up or incite violence.
“I don’t think this is one of those cases but of course we’ll keep a close eye on it.”
The Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso) received more than 17,000 complaints about the article, with The Sun having now removed it from their website.
An Ipso spokesperson said: “We will follow our usual processes to examine the complaints we have received. This will take longer than usual because of the volume of complaints.”
Former Conservative Minister Caroline Nokes wrote to The Sun’s editor Victoria Newton to demand action be taken against Mr Clarkson, with the letter signed by over 60 MPs.

The ITV host made a statement on Twitter admitting he had “put his foot in it” but stopped short of apologising for his words.
He wrote: “Oh dear. I’ve rather put my foot in it. In a column I wrote about Meghan, I made a clumsy reference to a scene in Game of Thrones and this has gone down badly with a great many people.
“I’m horrified to have caused so much hurt and I shall be more careful in future.”
