Met Police officer charged with rape, strangulation and misconduct in public office


A Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with rape and a slew of further offences.

Pc James Murray, who is attached to the force’s Met Operations unit, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (August 17).

Mr Murray has been charged with rape, non-fatal strangulation, actual bodily harm, misconduct in public office, possession of a firearm (PAVA spray) and four counts of possession of an offensive weapon in a private place, according to the Met.

The alleged offences took place between January and August this year with a number of them reported to have taken place while Pc Murray was on duty.

He was arrested on Wednesday (August 16), taken into custody and immediately suspended from duty.

A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “A woman is receiving support from specially trained officers.”
