Warmer weather and “above average temperatures” look set to hit the UK in the coming weeks. So far Spring has been particularly wet and cold than usual across the country, but that could be about to change. The Met Office has predicted “temperatures warming” in May following a period of “more unsettled weather” across the country.
With an extra Bank Holiday for the King’s Coronation, Brits are hoping they can celebrate in sunshine.
While the Coronation weekend doesn’t look to promising, the forecaster is hopeful for warmer weather later in the month – though perhaps not the scorcher some had hoped for.
Speaking on the Coronationw weekend, the Met Office said: “There are indications, as we head towards next weekend, we are looking at a potentially showery regime, with the risk of showers increasing as we go through the weekend but it is difficult to put any more detail on the forecast at this lead time.”
Looking further ahead it added: “After that, while it is looking fairly changeable for the second week of May with a greater chance of rain or showers, signals suggest fairly equal chances of fine or more unsettled weather for the second half of the month with, as you would expect at this time of the year temperatures warming and a chance of above average temperatures possible at times.”
Long-rang forecast predicts “increasingly unsettled” conditions for the Coronation weekend.
Netweather Senior Forecaster Nick Finnis said: “For Sunday May 7 and Monday 8, we see unsettled conditions taking over, as Atlantic troughing and low pressure extends east across the British Isles.
“So we could be looking at an increasingly unsettled Coronation weekend.” He continued: “But let’s hope the King’s Coronation Day will not be as inclement as the late Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation day back on June 2 1953.
“Unfortunately that day the weather was atrocious.”

Elsewhere in Europe, Spain is seeing the hottest April on record with temperatures up to 39 degrees.
On Thursday a record temperature of 38/7 degrees was recorded at Cordoba airport, the highest April temperature recorded in Europe, however, the hottest temperatures are expected on Friday and Saturday.
