Met Office issues urgent six hour storm warning as chaos to hit UK counties


The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning with parts of Britain set to be lashed by heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Flooding, travel chaos and damage to buildings are possible, according to the forecaster’s warning.

The warning is in place from 1pm today (September 1) until 7pm this evening.

It covers parts of Kent, Essex and Suffolk, pushing towards Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.

 

The Met Office warning says there is “a good chance” driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times on the roads.

Delays to train services are also possible as is damage to buildings from lightning strikes.

There is a risk of further damage as a result of flooding of homes and businesses, according to the warning.
