Meghan working on 'low key' birthday celebration for Archie while Harry jets off to UK

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, 41, is working on a “low-key” celebration plan to mark Prince Archie Harrison’s birthday, an insider has claimed.

The Duchess will stay in California as her husband Prince Harry jets off back to the UK to attend the King’s Coronation on May 6.

Archie will be turning four the same day and Meghan is believed to be planning a special event with close friends to mark the occasion despite the Duke being away for most of the day.

The insider claimed Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland will support her daughter on the day as well some very close friends.

They said: “It’s going to be a low-key party at home. They’ll have friends around them and Meghan’s mom, Doria. Meghan will definitely have support that weekend.”

They also added that Princess Lilibet Diana, Archie’s younger sister, will be included in the birthday celebrations.

The source said the two siblings, who were born only two years apart from each other, have a very special bond and Archie is very attached to her.

They told Page Six: “They are so sweet together. Archie loves Lili. He’s such a sweet boy. When she’s not around, he asks, ‘Where’s Lili?'”

Buckingham Palace confirmed last week the Duke of Sussex would be returning to the UK for the Coronation by himself while Meghan and their two children remain at their Montecito home.

Royal biographer Omid Scobie suggested Archie’s birthday was a key factor in the couple’s decision not to attend the historic service together.

Following the Palace’s confirmation, Scobie said: “I understand that Archie’s fourth birthday (also on May 6) played a factor in the couple’s decision.

“Expect it to be a fairly quick trip to the UK for Prince Harry, who will only be attending the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.”

The decision is believed to have sparked a last-minute change to the speech the King is expected to deliver to mark his own Coronation in two weeks.

Charles is believed to have removed a section of his Coronation lunch speech in which he planned to raise a toast to his youngest grandson to mark his birthday.

An insider told the Mail: “The King considered a toast to Archie. But with no member of the Sussex family now due at the lunch, it is highly unlikely he would do in their absence.”

Prince Harry has already been tipped for an early departure from the Coronation and commentators have suggested he will not be attending any other event connected to the main event.

He is instead expected to take a flight home shortly after the service in the hope of rejoining his family in time to celebrate Archie’s birthday on the day.

Commentator Emily Andrews said: “It’s a very brief, fleeting visit. He’s literally going to come to Westminster Abbey, going to walk to his seat, sit there and look dutiful, hopefully not glowering at everybody else.

“And then he’s going to go back to LA because, with the time difference, he hopes to apparently make it back in time for Archie’s birthday.”
