Meghan Markle's Suits smashes another record as legal drama continues to dominate

Another TV show is yet to knock Suits off of the top spot. The legal drama starring Meghan Markle now claimed the title of having the most weeks at number one in Nielsen’s streaming charts than any other show, stealing the record from Netflix’s Ozark.

To add to its impressive run, Suits took a mere 12 weeks to accomplish this, while it took Ozark the entirety of its four seasons to clinch the record.

Looking at the figures, the stats get even more interesting as the hit legal drama has racked up an eyewatering 2.35 billion viewing minutes in the week ending September 10, 2023.

This number is almost 400 million minutes more than the show sitting in the number two spot, which is Netflix’s Virgin River, which has managed to garn up an impressive 1.9 billion viewing minutes.

Netflix also nabbed the number three spot this week with One Piece, which generated almost 1.4 billion viewing minutes, meaning the streaming giant has dominated the charts more than any other streamer.

Not too far behind was Disney+ in fourth place with The Little Mermaid at 1.37 billion viewing minutes, but Netflix crept in again at number five with S.W.A.T. getting 1.04 billion viewing minutes.

Nielsen has only been reporting on streaming data since 2020, which means there’s a lot of early data missing from its charts.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t take away the spotlight from Suits’ incredible achievement, despite the fact the show ended back in 2019.

The climbing number of views has likely come off the back of Meghan Markle starring in the hit legal drama as Rachel Zane between the years 2011 and 2018.

Meghan’s character had a racy romance with Patrick J. Adams’ character Michael Ross.

After the season seven finale, both Meghan and her co-star Patrick’s contracts expired resulting in the pair leaving the series.

It was the perfect time for Meghan to abandon her long-time character and acting career, as her relationship with Prince Harry was getting serious and she was about to tie the knot with him later that year in 2018.

Suits seasons 1-9 are available to stream on Peacock in the US, while seasons 1-8 are available on Netflix.
