Meghan Markle's scathing comments about Kate's wedding dress years before they met

Meghan Markle said some rather scathing comments about Kate Middleton’s wedding, years before she became a royal, an old blog post has revealed. The Duchess of Sussex first met the Princess of Wales in 2017 after she began dating Prince Harry. But years earlier she shared her thoughts on Kate’s choice of wedding dress on her defunct blog “The Tig”. In the post, Meghan referenced the “pomp and circumstances” of the royal wedding and “endless conversation about Princess Kate”.

Kate, Princess of Wales married Prince William at Westminster Abbey in 2011.

Reflecting on the wedding in a blog post from 2014, Meghan spoke of “grown women” having a “childhood fantasy”.

She said: “Little girls dream of being princesses. I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power.

“For those of you unfamiliar with the ’80s cartoon reference, She-Ra is the twin sister of He-Man and a sword-wielding royal rebel known for her strength.

“We’re definitely not talking about Cinderella here.

“Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate.”

Meghan’s blog, which was closed in 2017 ahead of her engagement to the Duke of Sussex, was described as a “passion project” during her time as an actress.

Just a year later she had her own royal wedding at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Both Kate and Meghan’s dresses were designed by British designers, Kate’s by Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen and Meghan’s by Clare Waight Keller.

Giving an insight into their first meeting, Meghan said she was surprised at the “formalitY”.

Speaking on the Netflix docuseries “Harry and Meghan”, the Duchess said: “I met her for the first time, I think we went for dinner, I remember I was in ripped jeans and barefoot. I was a hugger, I’ve always been a hugger, I didn’t realise that that was jarring for a lot of Brits.

“I started to understand that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside, that there is a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door, I can relax now. But that formality carries over on both sides and that was surprising to me.”

Relations between the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been strained since Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals.

Before their departure, the couples, once dubbed the ‘Fab Four’, were regularly seen on public outings.

But, Harry and Meghan’s regular swipes at the Royal Family appear to have damaged their bond.

In his tell-all memoir “Spare” Prince Harry gave details of an altercation with his brother, claiming William pushed him into a dog bowl.

The four were last seen putting their differences aside as they mourned the loss of Queen Elizabeth II.

But we are unlikely to see a reconciliation among the group as Meghan stays home in the US while Harry attends the King’s Coronation alone.
