In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the author added: “Not only do they contradict details shared by the Palace with a cooperatively written biography in 2022 (see pic), they also depict the monarch in a way the public haven’t known her to be.”
According to the Daily Mail’s royal correspondent, Rebecca English, the Queen was “so upset by the Sussexes’ decision” that she told insiders: “I don’t own the palaces, I don’t own the paintings, the only thing I own is my name. And now they’ve taken that.”
At the time, the Sussexes remained in a longstanding dispute with the Royal Family after they opted to quit their senior royal duties to move across the pond in Los Angeles.
But after sharing his thoughts on the latest row, social media users took aim at Scobie.
One wrote: “Like anyone takes you seriously Scabie!! Everything you’ve ever written has been s****!! How is your bestselling book Endgame doing?”
Another added: “Jog on Scobie. Love or hate she served for the whole of her life. Dedicated to public service.”
According to Mr Hardman’s new book, a member of the late Queen’s staff told him that upon hearing the news the Sussexes’ were to call their newborn daughter Lilibet, the monarch was “as angry as I’d ever seen her”.
It was understood that were the late Queen not “supportive” of such a move, they would not have pressed ahead with naming the child Lilibet.
In her article, Ms English added: “As it was described to me, the then 95-year-old monarch was taken aback when she was told by her grandson of his intention to give his daughter the name Lilibet in her honour but didn’t feel, given the circumstances, she could say no.
“You might describe it as being pushed into an impossible corner.
“And that certainly makes sense when you now consider her remark about ‘palaces and paintings’ which, as well as most of her jewels, cars and even furniture, were never hers to own.”
