Meghan Markle's excuse for refusing to join Prince Harry in the UK torn apart by expert

Meghan Markle’s excuse for refusing to join Prince Harry in the UK has been torn apart by one royal expert.

The Duchess of Sussex, who joined Harry in Germany for the 2023 Invictus Games a few days after her husband, cited their two children as the reason for her late arrival – and supposed no-show in the UK.

Upon her arrival at the Games, the former royal gave a speech where she said she had wanted to get four-year-old Prince Archie and two-year-old Princess Lilibet “settled at home” in the US before joining Harry in Düsseldorf.

At the conclusion of the sporting event, the couple then jetted off for a quick holiday before returning to their children in California.

Speaking to OK!, royal expert Jennie Bond said: “Meghan apparently didn’t have time to come to the UK with Harry for the Wellchild Awards because she had to deal with the children, but then she stayed on after the Invictus Games to visit [Princess] Eugenie in Portugal.

“And now we see them both jetting off to New York and then – on a private jet, which brings with it questions about their eco-warrior integrity – for a couples holiday to an ultra luxurious Caribbean island.

“Neither Harry nor Meghan seem to have much self awareness, it seems they believe we should do what they say not what they do.”

Ms Bond also went on to discuss the ongoing bitter feud between the Sussexes and the Royal Family.

She said: “Whether they are deliberately trying to widen the divide is up for debate. What is certain is that they are doing nothing to bridge the gap.”

The expert added: “They both need to take a look at themselves.

“Perhaps only [Princess] Eugenie knows if they have any inclination to mend the rift with the rest of the family. For the moment, though, there is absolutely no sign that they intend to do so.”

Ms Bond’s comments come after PR expert Kieran Elsby expressed his disappointment that the couple are “further distancing” themselves from the royals.

Speaking to the Mirror, he said: “While they’ve voiced their desire for privacy and independence, their actions, such as this potential property purchase, might be interpreted as a deliberate move to maintain a disconnect from the Royal Family.”

It has recently been reported that Meghan and Harry are looking for a home in the UK, following their eviction from Frogmore Cottage earlier this year.

The couple had been living in the Windsor-based home prior to their royal exit but, since their move to the US, Harry and Meghan had only used the property a handful of times.

An insider told OK! that the couple “will soon start looking for a property of their own near London and Harry is very much leading this.”
