Meghan Markle's ex-best friend shares sweet photo with King Charles

Meghan Markle’s former best buddy has reminded fans of her royal connections as she shared a picture of a meeting with King Charles from the 90s.

Jessica Mulroney shared a snap of her mother-in-law Mila Mulroney with Princess Diana and the King to her Instagram story.

The Duchess of Sussex is understood to have once been very close with Jessica, having connected while they were both working in entertainment in Toronto.

It’s even believed that Ms Markle Facetimed her just before Prince Harry proposed.

Ms Mulroney – married to Ben Mulroney, son of the former Canadian PM Brian Mulroney – has now reminded her fans of her own brushes with royalty.

Jessica’s picture features in-laws Brian and his wife Mila, as they hosted then-Prince Charles and Princess Diana on an official visit to Ottawa.

In the caption of the picture, Mila was praised for being “incredibly stylish” – with Jessica wholeheartedly agreeing in her story.

It wasn’t the family’s first close meeting with the royals.

Brian and Mila hosted the late Queen Elizabeth in Vancouver in 1987 at a Commonwealth meeting during her official tour of Canada, and Jessica’s husband Ben attended a dinner with the monarch as a child.

However, despite the close connection of her then-best friend, Meghan has maintained that she knew little about the Royal Family before joining it.

In her Netflix documentary with husband Harry, the Duchess said the idea of curtseying to the Queen was a mystery to her – while the Prince said in his memoir that she “definitely hadn’t googled” the Royal Family beforehand.

Although Meghan and Jessica appear to have drifted apart since the latter was caught up in a row over not publicly supporting Black Lives Matter.

Ms Mulroney lost her illustrious role at Good Morning America (GMA) and was cut off by Canadian TV network CTV after lifestyle blogger Sasha Exeter accused of her being blinded by her white privilege in not supporting the activist movement.

Ms Exeter claimed Jessica “took offence” to “a very generic call to action” for people to join the Black Lives Matter movement.

Exeter continued: “What happened next was a series of very problematic behaviour and antics that ultimately resulted in [Mulroney] sending me a threat in writing last Wednesday 3 June”.

She explained that her and Mulroney used to be close friends and while she is “by no means calling Jess a racist”, that she is “very well aware of her wealth, her perceived power and privilege because of the colour of her skin”.

Ms Mulroney publicly apologised to Ms Exeter, adding that she had not meant to threaten her livelihood, adding: “I know I need to do better. Those of us with a platform must use it to speak out.”
