Meghan Markle makes sweet nod to Prince Harry as she steps out for lunch with old friend

They became close during the five months it took for Clare, who was then the artistic director of Givenchy, to make the stunning gown.

Clare told Vanity Fair last August: “It all started out, in a way, quite relaxed. We just talked a lot about her personal style. There was that sense of playfulness and modernity and doing things in a different way.

“And I really feel that – for the dress, particularly – that sense of it could be something that really represented her, her spirit, her modernity, and the freshness and the cleanness.”

Talking about their strong friendship, Clare said their bond was “incredibly special” after their working relationship quickly turned into a friendship.

She added: “I suppose we have a sort of unbreakable bond in that sense, when you’ve experienced something very few people have together, so it goes deep.”

Meghan, just a few months after her wedding, wore another dress designed by Clare for her first official meeting with the late Queen Elizabeth. This cream-coloured dress had a caped neckline.

In December 2018, Meghan gave Clare the British Designer of the Year Award.

After working together on Meghan’s beautiful wedding dress, Clare has since left Givenchy and started designing collections for the popular store Uniqlo.
