Meghan Markle’s popularity has been on the brink for a while now but it appears even those close to her – at least geographically – are not a fan of the former actress.
“High and mighty” is how one neighbour described her, as they told the Daily Express: “We cannot wait for her to go.”
They added that they believe Meghan is “manipulating” her husband Prince Harry – a view echoed by her own father Thomas Markle yesterday.
He told ITV’s Good Morning Britain that Meghan isn’t the person he once knew as his daughter.
Asked if he blamed Harry for that, he added: “I don’t know if I blame her or Harry. I think she has an influence on Harry more than he does on her.”
The neighbour added that they weren’t the only one that hasn’t warmed to the Duchess, and said her attitude has upset the entire neighbourhood.
One neighbour previously opened up on his attempt at welcoming the couple when they first moved in, offering them some films about the history of the exclusive Californian enclave – but the Sussexes simply weren’t interested.
Navy veteran Frank McGinity added that not many people see much of the couple.
Harry and Meghan live in an £11.5million mansion in Montecito, located in Santa Barbara, California.
They have lived there since June 2020, moving to the exclusive neighbourhood just months after they stepped down as senior working royals.
Their home boasts a tennis court, outdoor swimming pool, and 16 bedrooms.
A whole host of celebrity faces live nearby, including Oprah Winfrey, Bruce Willis, Tom Cruise and Fred Couples.
US polling shows that the majority of Americans hold a negative view of Meghan, while Harry is viewed slightly more favourably.
A recent Newsweek survey found that 33 percent disapproved of Meghan, while 31 percent approved – giving her an overall net approval rating of -2. This is down eight points since the outlet’s last poll, conducted in June.
Harry was liked by 39 percent of respondents and disliked by 27 percent, giving him a net approval rating of +12. This is also a drop on the previous poll, when he was on +18.
The survey was carried out between September 3-4 and quizzed 1,500 US adults.
