Meghan Markle ‘has no idea what to do’ with Prince Harry after cutting royal ties

Meghan Markle has no idea what she “wants to do” with Prince Harry now he has cut ties with the UK. Prince Harry’s “Americanisation” is almost complete according to a top commentator as news broke that he has now listed the US as his permanent residence.

But, Sean O’Grady, who is the associate editor of the Independent, says that the Duchess of Sussex has been left scratching her head as to what the next step should be for her husband, comparing the couple to King Edward VIII and his American wife Wallis Simpson.

Writing for Independent Premium Mr O’Grady said: “When he [King Edward VIII] abdicated in 1936, a substantial portion of the British public took the view that his American girlfriend had ‘stolen our prince’. Perhaps she did, but she didn’t seem to know what to do with him afterwards.”

He added: “It’s not entirely clear what Meghan wants to do with Harry either.”

Mr O’Grady says that when the pair left the UK they also left behind royal duties and “charitable functions” – with the exceptions of the Invictus Games and their own Archewell Foundation.

He went on to say that they pair are running out of material for reality-style documentaries saying “nor can they ‘mine’ much more of their experiences for Netflix”.

His analysis comes as Meghan’s new brand – American Riviera Orchard – has revealed its first product: strawberry jam.

The luxury jam was sent to 50 influencers to taste test, with some taking to social media to share the product.

Pictures showed the conserve in a glass jar with a fabric lid, with the logo – featuring the Duchess’s own calligraphy – stamped on the top.

However it’s as yet unknown how well the lifestyle brand will fare – with one royal expert giving a damning view about how the US public feel toward her.

Daily Express US spoke exclusively to Andrew Lownie, author of Traitor King: The Scandalous Exile of the Duke & Duchess of Windsor, who says: “I think she is a very destructive force, and I think on the American side, people can see through her.

“She felt like she could change the institution, rather than go in and work from within. Meghan thinks everyone is going to bow to her, and she can do exactly what she wants and she’s not part of a team.

“And she knows better than the institution that has evolved over a thousand years.”
