Meghan Markle fans issue same complaint as Duchess ditches tried and tested fashion rule

Meghan Markle wore a spring floral outfit as she visited the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for a special storytime session on March 21, leading a ‘Literally Healing’ workshop.

Instead of opting for her signature heels, Meghan Markle decided to throw on a pair of black suede Aquazzura flats for the outing, which has divided the opinion of royal fashion fans and frustrated many others.

For the reading, the 42-year-old, Duchess of Sussex wore £2,776 ($3,490) Oscar De La Renta silk-chiffon shirt dress with cuffed sleeves and on her feet, her trusted brand, Aquazzura ‘Love Affair’ Black Suede Flats, costing a huge £595 ($747).

But royal fans weren’t impressed that she ditched the tried and tested rule of wearing heels, with Instagram user, @clarekl2, writing: “The dress is pretty. I don’t understand the shoes. There’s almost no heel coverage. It just looks odd to me.”

Another fan also admired the dress, but could not stand Meghan’s shoes, writing: “The dress is great, but the flats just do not match the dress. (I do hate flats though, so there is that prejudice).”

User, @plbatch56 added: “There is nothing attractive about those flats, very unflattering shoes.”

However, some fans believe opting for flats was suitable for a visit to a children’s hospital. User, @maggs_madiba, wrote: “She’s dressed appropriately for this visit. Spending time with the kids, wearing flats and being comfortable.”

Another supportive fan of Meghan wrote: “Love this look! Beautiful dress and flats.”

The Duchess loves the brand, Aquazzura, and has worn them for years, even on her wedding day when she wore a bespoke pair of heels from the designer.

The Aquazzura designer played a major part in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding reception on May 19, 2018. Meghan chose to wear satin Aquazzura shoes, that even had a blue sole, serving as a possible candidate for the Duchess of Sussex’s “something blue.”

The gown Meghan chose for the wedding reception was designed by Stella McCartney, and to accessorise, Meghan displayed a huge aquamarine ring which she inherited from the late Princess Diana of Wales.

One element of Meghan’s outfit that ardent followers of Meghan’s style love is her choice of footwear, and when Meghan Markle was a “working royal” she often chose to wear heels during royal engagements.

During her visit to the Children’s Hospital in LA, Meghan read to her crowd with a “contagious” enthusiasm which has been dubbed her “best performance” since marrying Prince Harry by a body language expert. Meghan read three books – Rosie the Riveter, Pete the Cat, and I Saw a Cat.

Meghan’s acting skills also gave a clear advantage as the former Suits actress was seen engaging in animated storytelling. The children could also be heard shouting and singing along as Meghan read the books.

After the storytelling session, the duchess hugged and spoke to the children as well as members of staff and took pictures with them.

A statement about the event said: “Children were laughing and singing as The Duchess turned into character with every page as she read patient favorite books like Rosie the Riveter, Pete the Cat and I Saw a Cat.”
