Meghan Markle “could have been booed” by thousands of people in London as the country watched King Charles III’s Coronation next month, Nigel Farage has claimed during cutting commentary about her decision to stay away.
For weeks, speculation was rife about whether she and husband Prince Harry would attend the iconic crowning of the new King.
But after it emerged Harry was set to join the festivities on May 6 alone while Meghan stayed with their two young children in California, the former Brexit Party leader waded into the debate.
Farage described how Britain breathed a sigh of “relief” because he felt that, had Meghan came “she would have been such a huge focus of attention of the cameras and of the commentators”.
He outlined his opinion on Fox News, telling viewers that the day should “only be about the King and our new Queen”.

Farage continued: “Meghan would have been a distraction, Harry will be a bit of one.
“I fear that Meghan could have been booed by the crowds. Harry on his own – I don’t think he will be. He’s not coming for very long. It’s a real lightning visit, in fact he won’t be here much longer than Joe Biden visiting Northern Ireland.”
He concluded: “And I think – you know what? It’s his dad who is having a crown put on his head. I’ve now reached the view that it is right for Harry to come but America, we’re only borrowing him for a few days, he’s coming back to you.”
Many commentators believed the Sussexes, who famously left Britain in 2020 to start a private life away from the spotlight in the US, would both join the celebrations – as they did for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last year.
But in a surprising move, Buckingham Palace confirmed that only Harry would visit, offering him the chance to heal any wounds within his relationship with the Royal Family after the release of his controversial autobiography Spare.
The Palace said in a statement: “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6.
“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
One of the reasons behind the decision included their young son Archie turning four on the same day as the Coronation, insiders believe.
The couple’s recent struggles with the Firm were placed under the microscope by author Deepak Chopra, who outlined how their rift was threatening their own way of life.
As well as Harry’s memoir, which included a claim that he and his older brother Prince William became embroiled in a physical spat, they discussed their life behind Palace doors in the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan.
But Chopra, who appeared on the Sussexes’ holiday special podcast three years ago, believes the couple are “struggling right now” amid the royal rift.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he added: “I hope they get through it light-hearted. I think there’s too much drama around them. People should mind their own business.”
