Meghan Markle has been slammed by a royal expert as “difficult” amid reports that she was left outraged after claims she was made to follow “different rules” from other members of the Royal Family – before and after she stepped back as a senior royal alongside her husband Prince Harry in 2020.
Speaking to Sky News Australia, royal expert Angela Levin discussed recent media reports that the Duchess of Sussex was “furious” that the Royal Family had “different rules for her”. Asked whether she thinks this was the case, Ms Levin said: “Frankly, Meghan is the most difficult woman to satisfy. She’s got millions, she wants billions. She’s one of those people.”
Explaining why Meghan’s situation is rather different from Fergie’s, after she appeared at Sandringham for the Royal Family Christmas celebrations in Norfolk for the first time in 30 years, the renowned royal author added: “Now we have to remember that Fergie was married to Prince Andrew – the whole point of it was that in 1996 they divorced so, the life for Ferige was always going to be very different.”
Whereas Meghan, alongside Prince Harry, made the conscious decision to distance themselves from the Firm, after moving to Montecito, California, with their young children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Ms Levin added: “But also what Meghan is ignoring is that the Queen said to her that she would be very happy if she wanted to continue acting and Meghan said ‘no I absolutely don’t, I want to give my whole self to the Royal Family’.
“That was a rather large error on her part, it’s ridiculous, I think it’s Meghan trying to get publicity, and I think she does like to be a victim, we’ve seen that many times on broadcasts on the TV and moans and groans, this is just another one.
“What the Queen didn’t want is for them to use the royal name to make commerical gain. Fergie had to look after herself, and she was entitled to do what she wanted.
“She didn’t have the connections, she didn’t go to any of the events. You can’t use your royal status to make lots of money.” Asked whether Harry had a bit of hope, Levin said: “I think it’s very different between Fergie and Harry, she has always supported the monarchy and been a great mother.”
It comes as Fergie, the Duchess of York who shares daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie with her ex-husband Prince Andrew, attended Christmas at Sandringham for the first time 30 years.
Meanwhile Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were told how they could “rebuild trust” within the Royal Family in one simple way. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been told to “put their money where their mouth is” if they hope to rebuild their brand in 2024.
US-based royal expert Kinsey Schofield has urged the pair to figure out what their “core values” are before rebranding. Speaking to GB News, she said: “I think that they have to figure out what their core values are and that it has to be reflected in the activities that they do, for people to have any sort of interest in them or any sort of faith in them.
“You can’t say upon leaving the Royal family that you’re going to live a life of service and then spend a significant amount of time on reality television for Netflix and Oprah Winfrey. We have not seen the life of service. What does Archewell stand for? What do you hope to accomplish with that? What is your mission statement? Not only as a couple but as a foundation?”
Harry and Meghan have continued to make money from their royal affiliations since stepping down as senior royals some years ago. In 2022, the couple released their Netflix documentary ‘Harry and Meghan’, while Prince Harry released his tell-all memoir Spare last year in another blow for the Royal Family.
