Meghan Markle beams as she attends A-list Power of Women event after explosive book claims

Meghan Markle appeared not to let this week’s revelations from Omid Scobie’s latest biography faze her as she rubbed shoulders with her famous pals in LA on Thursday night.

The Duchess was attending the Power of Women event at the Mother Wolf restaurant in the Californian city, alongside a series of celebrities including Carey Mulligan, Billie Eilish and her friend Oprah Winfrey.

Earlier this week royal author Omid Scobie published the first excerpts of his latest release Endgame in the US in People magazine, and it made several explosive claims about the Royal Family, particularly the day Queen Elizabeth died.

On September 8 2022, the Firm made their way to Balmoral to say their last goodbyes to the monarch, although Meghan and Prince Harry was apparently kept in the dark about her condition until the last minute.

Sadly Harry never got to see his grandmother again, as she passed away while he was still on board a flight to Scotland.

Meghan Markle was dressed in stunning neutrals as she arrived at Variety magazine’s Women in Power gala.

Her elegant camel-coloured gown is from designer label Proenze Schouler, which she accessorised with a pair of black $895 (£721) Aquazzura heels and a tiny clutch bag.

Meghan kept her make up classic and dewey, with her hair pulled back in a bun.

The Duchess stuck to her tried and tested colour palette at the gala, as she attended alongside the night’s honorees Billie Eilish, Carey Mulligan, Fantasia Barrino and Lily Gladstone.

The event was the first time Meghan has been seen in public since the staggering claims made by Omid Scobie in Endgame, which will be published in full next week.

Harry and Meghan have distanced themselves from the book and its author, despite him previously being described as one of their allies.

The Variety gala comes a little over a year after the last ceremony, which Meghan was unable to attend as it fell just after Queen Elizabeth’s death.

Meghan did not accompany Harry on his journey to Balmoral last September, as it was felt it was not appropriate for her to be there.

She did come to the funeral in London and Windsor on September 19, the last time she was in the UK.

Thursday was another difficult day for the royals, as the first part of the final series of The Crown was released on Netflix.

Peter Morgan’s groundbreaking series has attracted criticism for its heavy focus on the death of Princess Diana, with her ghost set to return on screen to visit her ex-husband, then-Prince Charles.

It is not known whether Harry or Meghan will watch the show.

Although Meghan and Diana never met, Harry has often compared the two and said that his wife has many of his mother’s caring qualities.

The Crown’s final part will be released on December 14, with the series stopping in 2005 with the wedding of Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles.

This means that Harry and Meghan’s relationship will not be shown on screen.
