Meghan Markle at centre of 'tasteless joke' in subtle dig at her wedding to Prince Harry

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018 was quite the royal spectacle with millions of fans worldwide watching as the pair carried out their nuptials.

And as with any other royal wedding, all eyes were down on every detail, from Meghan’s beautiful wedding gown to the star-studded guest list.

But it seems like there was one detail which would be considered as an indirect dig towards the Duchess of Sussex.

According to reports, there were tensions between the Royal Family and the Sussexes long before the latter quit royal duties in 2020.

Meghan Markle was seen arriving along with her mother Doria Ragland from the Cliveden House Hotel to St George’s Chapel in the Rolls-Royce Phantom IV.

The motoring jewel is so rare that only 18 were made from 1950 to 1956.

But it’s also the vehicle that reportedly was used to transport the late Wallis Simpson to the funeral of her husband, the Duke of Windsor in 1972.

The car is said to have been given to Queen Elizabeth II in 1950.

The Duchess of Windsor – also a divorcee like Meghan – was at the heart of the abdication crisis as her husband, Edward VIII abdicated in 1936 so they could marry.

He died in May 1972 with his funeral taking place in June.

It was at this funeral that Simpson was seen arriving in a Phantom IV.

And now the Mail Online claimed the use of the same vehicle could mean it might have been “a joke in regrettably bad taste” whilst it also suggested it might have been courtiers who may have wished to play such a “joke” on Harry and Meghan.

The Duke of Windsor’s abdication forced his brother, Albert – Queen Elizabeth II’s father – to become king, taking the name George VI.

With a reign of 326 days, Edward was one of the shortest-reigning British monarchs to date.
