Meghan Markle and Prince Harry 'should be issuing apologies rather than demanding them'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “should be issuing apologies” instead of demanding the Royal Family to beg for forgiveness, commentator Lee Cohen argued. The Duke of Sussex is believed to be hoping to secure a meeting with the King ahead of the Coronation to pressure the family into apologising to the Duchess. But Cohen argued that Harry and Meghan’s “appalling violations of trust” should have them apologising to the family rather than the other way round.

Cohen said: “Harry, who brought pain and distraction to the last years of his beloved grandmother’s 70-year reign, has demanded concessions and apologies in order to attend.

“This is preposterous considering it is he — and his wife — who should be issuing apologies rather than demanding them.

“More generally, while the king probably has an appetite to forgive, he and the Waleses must be wise enough not to forget.

“With the appalling violations of trust exhibited by Harry and Meghan, who can blame Harry’s family for being concerned that anything said or done is going to be recorded for potential future attacks and monetisation?”

Writing for Fox News Digital, Cohen said: “The only claim for an apology should come from the King, the Queen Consort, and Kate and William.

“Harry and Meghan have sought to ruin, but they have failed, and the king and his successors remain popular because they carry on dutifully and never stoop to the Sussexes’ level.

“The irony is that because of the discrete approach of the royal family, the demand for the proper apology will never be issued.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed earlier this month they had received an official invitation to the Coronation.

But a spokesperson for the couple said they will not confirm whether they will be attending quite yet.

However, they sought to reiterate their connection to the Royal Family as they announced their children will be using their prince and princess titles going forward.

Prince Archie Harrison and Princess Lilibet Diana automatically became entitled to using their titles in September, when their grandfather ascended the throne.

But until last week, their status had not been updated on the Royal Family’s official website.
