Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in 'dangerous territory' as royal crusade threatens brand

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are in a “precarious position” after their anti-Royal Family crusade left them “isolated” as they face financial difficulties with their foundation, an expert has claimed.

For the most part, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been estranged from senior royals since quitting their institutional roles.

They have since tried to establish themselves as members of Hollywood’s elite by striking a series of deals with the likes of Netflix and Spotify but their success has been mixed.

Meghan and Harry have also pushed forward with the launch of Archewell to pursue their charitable endeavours. However, the foundation reported an $11 million (£8.6m) loss in donations over the past 12 months.

The pair have since appeared in The Hollywood Reporter’s “biggest losers of 2023” list – a further blow which appears to threaten their plans to establish their brand across the pond.

The film industry bible justified the decision to include the royal couple by citing their “whiny Netflix documentary, whiny biography and an inert podcast’ for their inclusion among 11 on the list.”

The Duke and Duchess “fled a life of ceremonial public service to cash in on their celebrity status in the States”, it added.

And brand expert Nick Ede, who previously worked with Meghan in London, said the pair now appear to have “lost their way” so much they are in a “dangerous” spot.

Ede told MailOnline: “I think they are in a precarious position at the moment.

“After Megxit they mopped up millions from the likes of Netflix and Spotify but it feels like they’ve lost their way in terms of who they are and what their actual purpose is.”
