Meghan Markle and Kate 'not on good terms' as Prince Harry prepares to attend Coronation

Meghan Markle and Kate, the Princess of Wales are “not on good terms” as the Sussexes’ criticism of the royals continues to impact relations, a royal expert has claimed.

While Prince Harry is set to attend the Coronation of King Charles III, Meghan will stay at home for the event.

This could mean that, while the Duke of Sussex has an opportunity to build bridges, Meghan could become even more distant from the royal fold, Camilla Tominey noted.

Analysing the situation, Ms Tominey told the Telegraph: “I don’t think there’s much capital in it for Meghan to come here anymore.

“She has disenfranchised herself from the royals and the family, she’s not on good terms with her sister-in-law.

“I think she found the Platinum Jubilee and the Queen’s funeral quite difficult, and why would she want to put herself through that?”

On why Meghan is not coming to the Coronation, Ms Tominey added that the Duchess could fear a bad reception.

Prince Archie Harrison’s fourth birthday also falls on May 6, another factor royal commentators noted could have influenced her decision not to attend the celebrations.

Ms Tominey continued: “Why isn’t Meghan coming to the Coronation? The answers are pretty obvious.

“To be fair to the Duchess, during the Platinum Jubilee weekend they were both on their best behaviour, they were on the sidelines and didn’t want to overshadow.

“Second of all, she said to Oprah Winfrey that the only title I really care about is mum. I don’t think she would want to be apart from children, not least when it’s Archie’s birthday.”

“There will be the same attitude with the Coronation, they know that from a PR perspective, it does them no favours whatsoever if Meghan suddenly turns up at her own event on that Saturday morning and tries to upstage all of her in-laws. That’s something I don’t think she is interested in doing.

“I think she is lying low because she is planning the next stage in her career.”

Royal insiders have suggested the Duchess will focus her efforts on throwing a “low-key” celebration for Archie on May 6.

A source close to Meghan said she is planning to host a small party to mark the boy’s fourth birthday with only her mum and a few friends in attendance.

They said: “It’s going to be a low-key party at home. They’ll have friends around them and Meghan’s mom, Doria. Meghan will definitely have support that weekend.”

Harry, who will be in London for the Coronation, has been tipped to keep his visit short in the hope of making it back in time to spend at least the evening with his son thanks to the time difference.
