Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex “captivated” her father-in-law with her “intelligence” and interest in British culture, according to royal author Robert Jobson.
The royal commentator claimed His Majesty welcomed Prince Harry’s now-wife much like the public and saw her as a “breath of fresh air” for the Royal Family.
The King was reportedly impressed with Meghan’s “work ethic” and her commitment to philanthropy – two traits he thought they both shared.
Jobson suggested the “warmth” the Duchess of Sussex, 41, felt towards her new father-in-law, 74, also contributed to a “softening of relations between father and son”.
Writing in Our King: Charles III: The Man and the Monarch Revealed, the author said: “Charles was captivated by Meghan’s intelligence and vivacious personality.

“He remarked, ‘She makes Harry happy. We could not like her more.'”
Jobson describes how the King stepped up to help Harry, 38, and Meghan plan for their wedding, actively helping the future royal to learn more about the demands of her new role.
He continued: “It helped that Meghan was fascinated by British history and royal history. More so than her husband, who is admittedly not a star pupil when it comes to such matters, and sources said she had been poring over notes as she studied the Commonwealth.
“Charles saw his work ethic and his passion for philanthropy reflected in his new daughter-in-law, who had campaigned to raise awareness of women’s issues.
“It would not have escaped his notice that she also shared his belief in the importance of organic food.”
The Duchess reiterated her fondness for the King in the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, in which she said it was “important” to her to have a close relationship with her father-in-law following the breakdown of her bond with her own father.
She said: “Harry’s dad is very charming and I said to him ‘I’ve lost my dad in this’. So him as my father-in-law is very important to me.”
But despite the close bond they initially shared, Meghan and the King’s relationship has become more distant after by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step down from their roles.
Last week, Buckingham Palace confirmed Meghan will not attend His Majesty’s Coronation in May, with only Harry set to return to the UK.
Meghan will stay at the couple’s California home with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The royal tots are expected to be the only grandchildren of the sovereign not to be in attendance.
Prince George will serve as Page of Honour while Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are tipped to join the Prince and Princess of Wales in the procession.
Queen Camilla will also have her three grandsons, 13-year-old twins Gus and Louis Lopes and 12-year-old Freddy Parker Bowles, helping out during the service.
