Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s pal has hit back after a report slammed the biographer. The report in the Daily Mail claims the Finding Freedom author changed his appearance and lied about his age.
Mr Scobie is thought to be a close friend of the Sussexes and often referred to as “Meghan’s mouthpiece” due to his ability to have “the inside track” on the Duchess. But the biographer has hit back at the report.
Commenting on Mr Scobie’s appearance, Mr Gallaghar said: “A smattering of photos on social media suggest an individual who takes his public image seriously.
“One is from a photoshoot accompanying a magazine interview.
“In it, he lounges contentedly in a gold smoking jacket, his well-shod feet resting on a coffee table. He is said to have once owned a gold-coloured Range Rover with personalised number plates.”
Sharing a blunt but to-the-point response on Twitter, Mr Scobie said: “As if I’d get a gold Range Rover.”
Appearing to claim the author had lied about his age, Mr Gallagher said Mr Scobie had “told an interviewer in 2020 that he was 33 when, in fact, he was then 39.”
Mr Gallagher added: “For now, Scobie, who turned 42 last week, is contemplating a new Royal era, one that he doubtless hopes will bring him continued success.”
The damning report comes as Mr Scobie prepares to release his new royal book Endgame.
The book was due to be released next month but has been pushed back to November to reportedly include “sensational details” of the King’s Coronation.
Announcing his new book the author said it would be a “penetrating investigation into the future of the Royal Family” and promised it would be full of “unique insight, deep access and exclusive revelations”.
Mr Scobie first shot to fame when he co-authored the biography Finding Freedom with Carolyn Durand, a highly sympathetic look at Harry and Meghan’s relationship and time spent as working royals, with the author supposedly having access to some of the couple’s closest friends and sources to help him tell their story.
Meghan previously said information was passed on for Finding Freedom by a third party and did not come directly from her.
