But the Sussexes publicly referred to their children as Princess and Prince for the first time in March.
Archie and Lilibet were technically Prince and Princess when King Charles ascended the throne in September, but it wasn’t known at the time whether Harry and Meghan wanted their kids to take on the titles.
Speaking to Sky News Australia, Myers said: “It’s a complete contradiction, some may find, that Harry and Meghan had, through their friendly media, pretty much said that they didn’t want titles for their children and here we are just a few weeks ago…they have negotiated these and prince and princess titles for their children.
“Of course, they were entitled to those roles, but Harry and Meghan could have decided to go the other way like other members of the family like Princess Anne, the Earl and Countess of Wessex at the time didn’t choose to give those roles to their children.”
“If royalty was such a burden he should stop advertising his association with the use of the Duke and Duchess titles.”
Myers looked at how the titles could impact Archie and Lilibet, commenting: “What does this mean for them? Harry has said himself that he found the titles and those sort of associations with the monarchy really burdensome.
“It remains to be seen what role they will have with the Royal Family, maybe moving forward they will have a larger role to play.
“But certainly for Meghan and Harry there needs to be a period of calm and everybody needs a bit of breathing space because the last two years have been particularly fraught.”
