Prince Harry’s “silence is betrayal” comment has come under fire, with one royal expert claiming they let a “racist narrative continue” for two years after their bombshell Oprah interview.
The Duke, 38, told ITV’s Tom Bradby the couple never said the Firm was racist following a 2021 Oprah interview in which they said an unnamed royal asked about their soon-to-be born son’s skin colour.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Ms Schofield said: “Harry told Anderson Cooper that ‘at some point silence becomes betrayal’, yet Harry and Meghan allowed the royal racist narrative to continue for two years.
“In fact, they perpetuated it by asking Gayle King and Oprah to clarify that the royal racist was not Prince Philip or Queen Elizabeth.”
During the interview, when Bradby suggested the Sussexes had accused the Royal Family of racism, Prince Harry responded: “No I didn’t. The British press said that. Did Meghan ever mention that they’re racist?”
The Duke acknowledged that there was concern about his son Archie’s skin colour but when asked whether he would describe the incident as racist, he said: “I wouldn’t, not having lived within that family.”
Instead, Prince Harry pointed to what he called “the difference between racism and unconscious bias”.
Ms Schofield, host of ToDiForDaily podcast, also claimed Meghan wanted the focus of the bombshell Oprah interview to be her own struggles with her mental health issues, claiming that the “race accusation stole the show”.
“What we learned through the Netflix documentary was that Meghan wanted the biggest takeaway from her Oprah interview to be her mental health revelations and she was disappointed that the race accusation stole the show. Blame it on the baby brain,” Ms Schofield said.
The series of wide ranging interviews with ITV, CBS and ABC’s Good Morning America tackled subjects including Princess Diana’s death, Prince Harry’s admitted drug use and his relationship with his brother Prince William and stepmother, Camilla, Queen Consort.

The media blitz has sparked praise and criticism from royal watchers around the globe.
Prince Harry is now set to feature in an ABC special, Prince Harry: In His Own Words, airing tonight at 8.30pm EST in the United States (1.30am UK time).
He will also join comedian and talk show host Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, airing on CBS at 11.35pm EST January 10, after Spare hits the bookshelves.
