Max Verstappen tells F1 haters 'go suck an egg' after incredible Japanese GP pole lap

Max Verstappen has stated that those who attributed Red Bull’s struggle in Singapore to the recent technical directive can “go suck on an egg” after he bounced back at Suzuka.

The Dutchman struggled to get to grips with his Red Bull machinery in Singapore last weekend, failing to reach Q3 in qualifying before recovering to P5 in the race.

That result ended the Dutchman’s ten-race winning streak and also killed off his hopes of finishing on the podium at every race throughout the 2024 season.

Despite this setback, Verstappen was insistent that Red Bull’s struggles were track-specific and that the Milton Keynes-based team would rebound when the weekend got underway at Suzuka.

The Dutchman didn’t just respond in Suzuka, he responded emphatically. After topping all three practice sessions by a comfortable margin, Verstappen romped to pole position by over six-tenths of a second, marking a dominant return to form.

Speaking after the session, he said: “We had a bad weekend. Of course, then people start talking about ‘it’s all because of the technical directives’. I think they can go suck on an egg.”
