Max Verstappen discovers future of Red Bull chief he 'threatened to quit' over

Max Verstappen’s reported fears have been eased after Helmut Marko insisted that he will continue with Red Bull in 2024. Speculation has mounted over Marko’s future after a series of controversies and an alleged clash with team bosses.

Red Bull have publicly claimed that there is harmony behind the scenes at Red Bull. But technical advisor Marko was warned by the FIA in 2023 for using a “xenophobic slur” about driver Sergio Perez, comments which Lewis Hamilton described as “discriminatory”.

Reports have claimed that Marko’s duties could be relaxed by Red Bull bosses ahead of the 2024 season. There has also been speculation of a power struggle between Marko and team principal Christian Horner.

However, Marko, 80, has confirmed he will remain in his position for this season, telling OE24: “Yes, in a positive sense, everything is continuing as planned.

“If I said: ‘It’s crazy what is coming for me, it would be difficult’ but I say to myself: ‘Australia is beautiful, and I am looking forward to the trip to Melbourne.

“From Friday 11am to Sunday evening, I do my job for Red Bull Racing, and I enjoy it.”

F1Insider recently claimed that Verstappen would not think twice about quitting if Marko was axed by Red Bull. However, Horner has insisted that the veteran will not be asked to leave.

“We’ve always enjoyed a very strong and open relationship, [and] of course, there are things that we disagree on now and again, but I think that’s healthy,” Horner said at the end of the 2023 season. “He still has a very valuable role that he plays within the team and there is absolutely no intent or desire from me, or anyone within the team, to see that change.”

Verstappen also slammed reports of a rift within Red Bull as ‘b*******’ last season and believes there is a conspiracy to unsettle the ‘very good’ camaraderie. “People are trying to basically talk some b******* because I think the mood in the team is very good,” the Dutchman said. “Everyone knows exactly what their role is.”
