Mauricio Pochettino has admitted Chelsea can’t afford to “make the same mistakes again,” amid further struggles under the ownership of Todd Boehly. The Premier League head coach has issued his frank response with the team enduring an inconsistent run of form, despite investing more than £1billion in players in recent transfer windows.
Pochettino joined Chelsea at the start of the season and has guided the team to three wins, three draws and four defeats in the Premier League this season. The mixed spell of form comes amid another busy transfer for the Blues which saw another 12 players join the team.
Despite ringing in the changes, the team is yet to put together a consistent run of form that has been synonymous with the club’s many achievements in recent years. And the Argentinian coach has claimed that the team must avoid making the same mistakes if they are to get back to winning ways any time soon.
“At the moment, I think we are a young team, a young team means too many changes in the summer because of the circumstances and we are suffering – sometimes good and bad results, but performances are consistent,” Pochettino said.

“Things that go against you, you have to try to resist them and try to survive,” the Chelsea coach added. “You have to be quiet and be strong. And not to lose your balance, because it is easy to blame or say something that is going to affect other people and lead to division in the club.
“The important thing is to trust the ideas, the judgment and analysis of why certain things have not happened. To help the organization to be better and to improve, and not to make the same mistakes again. The most important thing is to learn from the mistakes.”
Pochettino’s comments come following yet another busy transfer window for the club. Chelsea have spent more than $1 billion on players since American investor Todd Boehly ended Roman Abramovich’s 19-year reign in West London in a deal worth around $5 billion.
Transfers have included spending beyond $100 million each for the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk. But the spending has done little to improve results on the field, with the team ending last season in 12th place -their second-lowest finish to date.
This season has seen a slight uptake in form thanks to a dominating 4-1 win over Burnley and a 2-0 London derby victory against Fulham. However, the Blues have also seen uncharacteristic defeats to Nottingham Forest, and a recent 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge to Brentford.
Away from the Premier League, Chelsea have progressed into the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup after a 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers, but face a tough test against Newcastle United in December. The team’s next test will see them face Tottenham Hotspur on Monday (November 6), who are currently undefeated in the Premier League.
