Mason Greenwood 'targeted for huge transfer' as Man Utd decide on replacement

Mason Greenwood is reportedly set to find himself at the heart of a three-way transfer battle when the season concludes. The forward has impressed since joining Getafe on loan from Manchester United, catching the attention of other La Liga outfits.

In February, the Crown Prosecution Services (CPS) dropped charges of attempted rape, coercive behaviour and assault against Greenwood following the withdrawal of key witnesses. The England international denied all of the charges.

Following the announcement, United ruled that they would conduct their own internal investigation into their academy product before deciding whether he would be reintegrated into the first team. After a six-month review of the situation, the Red Devils released a statement revealing that they would part ways with Greenwood and allow him to get his career back on track elsewhere, insisting that they had a duty to offer him continued support until he is settled with another side.

Getafe pounced to strike a deadline-day loan deal for the versatile forward, and he has hit the ground running at the club and already prompted conversations about whether the Spanish side would be able to retain his services next year.

According to The Sun, Getafe aren’t the only La Liga outfit that have shortlisted Greenwood as a target for 2024, with Real Sociedad and Valencia both ‘monitoring’ his situation closely in the hope of securing his signature in the future.

Greenwood is said to be enjoying life in Spain and has ‘found his feet both personally and professionally’, suggesting that he would be content with remaining in the country when his loan move concludes. However, there is the expectation that other clubs will register an interest as the campaign plays out, with several Serie A sides keen previously.
