Marcus Rashford has sent a heartfelt love letter to Manchester United after questions over his commitment sprang up in recent weeks. The England international could be among the high-value assets to become part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s reported summer fire sale amid serious interest from abroad.
Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be keeping a close eye on Rashford as the Ligue 1 giants scour the transfer market for options to replace Real Madrid-bound Kylian Mbappe.
Cashing in on Rashford would be accounted for as pure profit on United’s books, therefore allowing Sir Jim and Erik ten Hag to invest more while staying on the right side of the Premier League’s financial regulations.
Rashford made unsavoury headlines earlier this season when he was spotted on a night out in Belfast just hours before calling in sick for training. But the 26-year-old has made it clear to Sir Jim that his commitment to the club is as solid as it’s ever been, strongly suggesting that he won’t be looking to move on in the summer.
“If you ever question my commitment to Man United, that’s when I have to speak up,” Rashford wrote for The Players’ Tribune. “It’s like somebody questioning my entire identity, and everything I stand for as a man.
“I grew up here. I have played for this club since I was a boy. People will actually think I’m weird when I start talking about what United means to me. Because if you’re not me, then I’m sure it almost sounds fake. But you have to understand, when I was young, playing for United was everything.”
“We used to stay until everyone had gone, and the stadium was nearly empty, just looking around and listening. Old Trafford really has this sound to it. When something is inside you like that… It’s just inside you.
“Nobody put it there. It’s just there. Deep down, when I look around before every kick-off, I’m still a fan. I can’t get that out of my blood.”
