Mansion with Harrier jump jet on sale for £3.95m sparks interest

The housing market has really taken off – this stunning rural mansion comes complete with a Harrier jump jet on the front lawn.

The vertical take-off plane still sports its fixings for rockets and bombs, in Durford Wood, just north of Petersfield, Hants.

Built in 1923 by noted Arts and Crafts architect Inigo Triggs, with historic gardens designed by celebrated horticulturist Gertrude Jekyll, Durford Edge boasts six bedrooms.

It also has a spectacular lake in more than 10 acres of grounds – which also include a four-bedroom waterside guest wing.

The estate is being sold at a guide price of £3.95million by Savills, whose listing fails to mention the decommissioned warplane.

The Harrier appears to be in remarkably good condition in its location, overlooking the approach road to the 8,000sq ft mansion.

The agent calls the property “a magnificent Arts and Crafts family home set in secluded grounds. Durford Edge, along with The Hollow, has been sympathetically refurbished.

“The house retains many of its original ideas and features and has been thoughtfully designed with the principal rooms at the rear of the property, maximising its wonderful position and far-reaching views.”

The listing has attracted a lot of interest – and jokers, with one commenting online: “Darling, just bought a garden ornament off eBay. Ask them to put it on the south lawn.”
