Manhunt as 'Molotov' cocktail attack at bar leaves 11 dead near US border


A manhunt is underway and 11 people people have died after a “kind of Molotov cocktail” was hurled at a bar near to the United States border.

Police were called to the Beer House Bar in San Luis Rio Colorado in Mexico, just one street away from the US border, on Friday, July 21.

The Attorney General’s Office says a man was reportedly harrassing a woman in the bar before being thrown out. He reportedly came back to the venue and started the fire.

The fire killed seven men and four women. Four other people were rushed to hospital in the United States in the aftermath.

The Sonora state Attorney General’s Office said: “According to versions (from) several witnesses, the person with a young, male appearance was disrespecting women in that bar and was expelled.”

It described the object thrown “a kind of ‘Molotov’ cocktail”.

The authorities say they have yet to identify or arrest the suspect. Investigations continue to “clarify the facts” and “bring justice” it said, adding that “in Sonora, no one is above the law”.
