Manchester Arndale Centre evacuated as firefighters rush to the scene

Manchester’s Arndale Centre has been evacuated this evening as firefighters have been seen rushing to the scene.

Manchester Evening News reports that eyewitnesses have seen fire crews inside the markets, and shoppers and staff were told to leave the centre around 4pm.

One witness said a fire may have broken out in the market. He added: “I don’t know if it’s in one of the food stalls, but you can see the firefighters inside.

“It appears to have been extinguished now, because you can see them mopping up the water. There’s lots of people milling about outside.

“I don’t know if the whole centre’s been evacuated, but it looks like it has because they have kicked people out of the Market Street entrance as well.”
