Man Utd's Sir Jim Ratcliffe announcement 'imminent' as Brit granted vital wish by Glazers

Manchester United will unveil Sir Jim Ratcliffe as their new part-owner later today, according to reports. The petrochemicals billionaire is set to assume control of the club’s sporting operations from the Glazers, having made it a key element of long-running negotiations.

Red Devils fans have been desperate for the saga to reach its conclusion, and the announcement would effectively bring it to a close more than a year after Glazer brothers Joel and Avram revealed that they were exploring ‘strategic alternatives’.

Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani held extensive talks to purchase 100 per cent of the club, but Sir Jim ultimately struck a deal with the Glazers – who were reluctant to cut ties with the club – by offering a minority purchase.

According to Sky News, the 71-year-old’s 25-per-cent buy-in will be announced by United on Sunday. And Sir Jim will get his way, with the Glazers agreeing to hand over control of football operations.
