Maguire was not booked for his perceived time wasting but was roundly jeered by those inside the stadium, though his efforts did not appear to have the desired impact.
Newcastle continued to pile the pressure on Maguire and those around him in the United defence. Only a few crucial blocks from the 30-year-old prevented the hosts from taking the lead.
Maguire has proved to be a key figure under Ten Hag in recent weeks and was the only recognised centre-back picked to start against Newcastle, with Luke Shaw paired alongside the former Leicester man with Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka either side of them.
