Man Utd team news: Erik ten Hag to roll back the years with three changes vs Everton

Manchester United must conquer a hostile atmosphere at Goodison Park on Sunday in the first match since the Premier League docked Everton 10 points for breaching financial rules. But Erik ten Hag has received a monumental triple injury boost as United seek a fourth successive away league win. Express Sport runs through the Red Devils’ likely lineup.

Goalkeeper – Onana

Andre Onana looked to have added to Ten Hag’s relentless injury woes this season when he was forced off with a problem in Cameroon’s 1-1 draw against Libya last week.

However, the United boss has confirmed that Onana is fit. He will continue his ever-present status in his debut Premier League campaign.

Defence – Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw

Two of Ten Hag’s three changes should come in defence, and they are both significant. Aaron Wan-Bissaka missed the 1-0 win against Luton Town due to illness but looks set to return to action at Everton.

Harry Maguire will be one of the first names on Ten Hag’s team sheet on current form, likely partnering the hero of the narrow victory over Luton last time out, Victor Lindelof.

But the most notable change may come at left-back after Luke Shaw returned to training after a three-month absence this week. It would be no surprise to see Wan-Bissaka and Shaw come in for Diogo Dalot and Sergio Reguilon.

A backline of Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof and Shaw is one Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be proud of. It was his first-choice defence in the 2019/20 campaign…

Midfield – Amrabat, McTominay, Fernandes

A further change will come in midfield, with Christian Eriksen ruled out through injury after being replaced by Mason Mount early against Luton.

But Mount is unlikely to be the one to replace him at Everton. Ten Hag could predict a more physical midfield battle under the hostile conditions and opt to recall Sofyan Amrabat instead.

Scott McTominay currently seems a shoo-in to partner Amrabat in a double midfield pivot, having won over Ten Hag after being placed on the market in the summer.

United captain Bruno Fernandes will start ahead of them as the attacking midfielder fresh off guiding Portugal to a perfect Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.
