Manchester United takeover hopeful Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has no plans to restructure his proposal, according to reports. That’s despite rival bidder Sir Jim Ratcliffe weighing up whether to approach the Glazers with a new offer, which would keep the American billionaire owners at Old Trafford in a majority capacity.
Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim remain in the hunt to buy the Red Devils, nearly 11 months on from the Glazers announcing that strategic alternatives were officially under consideration.
The prominent Qatari banker and the British petrochemicals billionaire have each put forward different deals to United’s owners. Sir Jim initially proposed to acquire a majority shareholding while retaining the Glazers in a minority role.
However, amid concerns over how that would impact other shareholders, recent reports indicate that the INEOS chief has been in discussions with his advisers over how best to spur takeover discussions back into life.
Now, Sir Jim is reportedly weighing up whether to bid for a minority stake, risking the wrath of United fans, who are almost unanimously desperate to see the back of the Glazers after 18 years of ownership.
According to Sky Sports, Sheikh Jassim has no plans to do the same, as the Qatari ‘remains committed’ to purchasing 100 per cent of the club. His proposal poses fewer complications than that of Sir Jim, but Glazer brothers Joel and Avram are believed to be reluctant to surrender United completely.
